About Thetford Renewable Energy Plant
The renewable energy plant would have the capability to generate both heat and electrical power by burning biomass fuel. It would export renewable electricity direct to the local electrical distribution network and would have the capability to export renewable heat to meet local demand. It would have an electricity generating capacity of approximately 40MW, sufficient to provide electricity for some 68,500 homes.
The plant would include various buildings, housing a number of key processes, including:
• a receiving building for wood products;
• a fuel storage building;
• other biomass receiving and mixing buildings;
• a boiler house;
• a turbine house;
• an air-cooled condenser; and
• a flue stack (80m high).
