Location
The eight hectare (20 acre) site is located to the east of the A134 Mundford Road, approximately 1km north of the roundabout junction on the A11 dual carriageway, to the north of Thetford.

The site is part of a single field, currently in use for crop farming. It slopes down from the southern to northern boundary, along the road frontage, by some 13m. Two circular depressions, understood to be infilled marl pits, lie within the site.
A hedge marks the road frontage boundary, with woodland (forming part of Thetford Forest) to the north. Mature pine trees with low level shrubs form the ‘Box Covert' to the south, with fields to the east.
The site itself lies outside of any special landscape or nature conservation areas.
The boundaries of Breckland Forest Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Breckland Special Protection Area (SPA), which recognize the particular importance of woodlark, nightjar and stone curlew bird populations, are next to the northern site boundary.
